Adam Iredale-Gray is a versatile fiddler, guitarist, producer, and engineer with deep roots in traditional music and a commitment to innovation.

Nominated for a 2019 JUNO Award for Instrumental Album of the Year, he’s a compelling performer and an in-demand collaborator.

Adam started playing professionally at the age of 14, and by the age of 17 was gigging 6 nights a week in Victoria BC playing Irish, country, bluegrass, and early music. Adam attended the Victoria Conservatory of Music, studying jazz and classical music on the violin and upright bass, and later graduated from the performance program at Berklee College of Music (2015) with a minor in jazz theory. At Berklee, Adam studied violin with Simon Shaheen, Matt Glaser, Darol Anger, and Bruce Molsky, and music theory with Daniel Ian Smith.

Adam’s touring career started in 2005 with west coast alt-country quartet The Gruff, and he spent three years touring from Victoria to Cape Breton playing fiddle with the band. In 2007, Adam collaborated with Taylor Ashton to start acclaimed neo-folk band Fish & Bird. They released four albums, received nominations for Western Canadian Music Awards and Canadian Folk Music Awards, and performed across Canada, the US, and the UK for a decade.

In 2014, Adam started a new band on a new instrument, playing electric guitar in JUNO nominated prog-trad quintet Aerialists. The band’s sound is rooted in traditional music from Ireland, Scotland, and Scandinavia, and it’s an outlet for Adam’s original compositions.

Adam works closely with other artists in many roles, from producing their records to touring as a multi-instrumental side person, including Eleanor Buckland, Zoe Guigueno, and Jenny Ritter. He also works as a duo with fiddler Elise Boeur, playing for concerts and folk dances.
